So, he is now understandably grumpy, and can't focus on the work he has been ordered to do. Instead, he saunters around, smokes his Massa's cigarette and drinks his Massa's coffee, which is all strictly forbidden for the nigger slaves of course. When his misdemeanor has been discovered, he tries to smile as politely as he can, but that does't help: The nigger slave's punishment begins with a bastinado beating on the sole of his foot, which he has to present to his Massa, as we see in the last picture.
